a diverse sub-genre of its own
POP's wish list 014 miscellanous {anime} [Japanese pop culture]
I know I've been relying on him for this list but he does have a lot of choices that I could agree upon:
#009 Speed Racer
Such a cult classic anime that it even get its own big-budgeted movie adaptation by the Wachowski Brothers (now Sisters) that I believe is highly underrated and definitely ahead of its time. Whether they would adapt one over the other, they are such a colourful and unique characters to choose from!
Traits: Throwback retro looks and designs. Viability: around 60% but they might do a Ride though.
#010 Ninja Scroll
I can't believe I hadn't watch this one hell of a anime sooner than last year as the handdrawn styles and especially gory approach just help elevate the whole storytelling. What a tense journey!
Traits: Beloved ninja property from the yesteryears while the wardrobe and character designs could stand out. Viability: around 50% since it is not as well known and trying to adapt the distinct look.
#011 Vampire Hunter D
Another gorgeous gem from the 90's, adapted into an anime in the turn of the century after being mostly known as novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by the enigmtic Yoshitako Amano!
Traits: Such an iconic signature look for the hunter and the other cast as well.
Viability: over 60% as vampire is always around the pop culture lexicon.
#012 Afro Samurai
I think I did cover this before but I haven't, people should know about this stylish samurai journey, from the excellent storytelling to the one-of-a-kind action sequences and just wait until you find out the premise!
Traits: Zany (I mean ZANY!) character designs with signature looks. Viability: over 80%
with A-list Hollywood voiceovers and its endless popularity, at least in this circle.
#013 Batman Ninja
As much as the title makes little sense as its premise, I can't wait to see how full-fledged Japanese Dark Knight would be ... based on the trailers and images, they look like a perfect fit to me!
Traits: What a unique Japanese twist on the Batman formula, definitely would give the endless Batman POP collection much needed varieties. Viability: over 80% since it's coming out soon.
#014 Dragon Ball*
Despite the abundance of Akira Toriyama's characters in this franchise that have been adapted already, there are still a number of fan-favourite original female counterparts that are still being overlooked to cater to the newer iterations. Videl, Chichi and Android 18 for example!
Traits: Their appearances are still their own, strictly theirs. Viability: over 80%
if Funko decides to do a throwback wave for the eternally famous IP.
