"We, are Venom."

Trailer Review 000 & Movie Preview 025
Venom
SONY Pictures
[October 10th, 2018]
Trailer(s) Effectiveness = 90% for teasing the struggle between Eddie Brock and the Symbiote & of course finally the reveal of Venom.
Oh, there has been such a commotion among the die-hard fans that argue even the mere existence of this 'standalone' Venom movie, since how close the original inception of the character is with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I know most of the criticisms are because of the absence of the web-slinger himself, as the Symbiote is created to be the polar opposite of the do-gooder in every way, between Eddie Brock and Peter Parker while the alter egos represent their opposite ideals, reflected in the former's approach and actions as well as in his more iconic appearances. They latch on to this singular storyline too much that they couldn't see him without Peter even though there are a lot of comic spinoffs that have him stands on his own! This particular adaptation based on actually just that, particularly the Lethal Protector arc (if I'm not mistaken) whereby the character progression revolves around the main protagonist, Eddie Brock, who wanted to do good while the Symbiote that latches onto him leeches off of his more animalistic desires and violent tendencies to fill his own needs, and the resulting clash to fight over the control of the body and fully take over. This meandering synopsis could still be applied on this feature whereby we see more of the central storyline of Eddie breaks into the lab and got infected with the Black Symbiote in the process, seeing how it affects his mind when it is starting to mess with his mind and then materializes as the recognizable black tentacles and then of course the reveal of his iconic face with the signature white eyes and the jagged teeth and long tongue! I don't think he would have that white Spider logo on the chest (it is out of frame) but that white eyes certainly originates from Spider-Man whom he latched onto first in the comics and whether they would have a reason for the look in the film, that is still up in the air. There was a rumour of Marvel's Spider-Man would make a cameo but I do not have my hopes up for that. With that being said, I can see the potential of this film being an effective mind thriller running in tangent with the alien invasion and science experiments, as Tom Hardy would effectively lead the movie as the strong supporting cast would round up the flick quite well. I get the tone they are going from the trailers already, so if it's not to your liking, then it might not be for you.

Chance of Success =  70% with a mind thriller twist of a vigilante superhero flick.

a case for the coming together of good and evil:
+ Highlights +
Love the internal struggle between Brock and Venom about their intentions and how to use their powers. This unhappy partnership would definitely play close to the line of conscience!
? Main contention ?
The rest of the Symbiotes would play into the third act whereby we would see the test experiments being fully infected and team up to fight against Venom ... or at least that's what I see this is going.
- Lowlights -
The detractors would not be won over with the films at all. This is result of the deal made between Marvel and Sony whether you like it or not. I'm just happy they are giving it a go at all!
