With the previous three movies revolve around science fiction and pulsating action sequences aplenty, Marvel bravely ventured into new grounds as they tackled a period Shakespearean family drama and Viking(?) fantasy war sub-genre, a new adventure like never before. From the moment of the film, the storm-chaser scene was followed with the introduction of Asgard and its warrior ways, right away with the clash of ideals and the clash of Asgardians and Jotuns. As Thor Odinson was fueled with his own ego and arrogance and broke the truce between the two realms and needlessly started a war between them, being banished to Earth as a result. Adding Loki and Warriors Three and Lady Sif into the mix, they give the storyline much depth while alternating it with the comical fish out the sea situation for Thor on Earth, smartly providing levity against the stark seriousness of the drama happening in the Odin's realm. The major talking point here was the relationship between the God of Thunder and Jane Foster, which I found quite endearing but I can see the point of it being unnecessary. I love to see how the SHIELD was introduced and used in this burgeoning Universe but I do admit I felt a bit sad seeing it being pushed aside for better (and grander) things after the Avengers but if not for it, I'll never get the excellent Agents of SHIELD television show. Seeing how Thor's character grow was wonderful really and that revelation of him not being to lift Mjolnir was one of the highlights. The decision to have the stark contrast of the magical Asgard with the vastness of New Mexico was a masterstroke in adjusting the tone while adeptly trying to balance the magic and science since they originated from the Norse Gods mythology and it could've be tricky to adapt it into the existing MCU mythology. The biggest plus yet is the emergence of their best villain yet as the turn because of the betrayal from an overlooked son to a conniving manipulator bent on getting his revenge on his adopted family, the God of Mischief was born! The final fight between the brothers on the Rainbow Bridge was quite a spectacle and the aftermath was quite heartbreaking ...

P.S. The seeds for the next film was planted in the post credit scene, as well as the return of Loki himself soon!
P.P.S. I don't think I will finish the list before the week is over ... I will probably watch it tomorrow or the day after!
