Focusing on only videos this time around. I want you to watch all of them ...:
One Small Step
[TAIKO]
I came across the video some time ago and finally came around to watch it and was heavily surprised by how wonderful the whole short was! With genuinely high quality animation arguably on par with Disney and Pixar, it is the story told that makes me watch it from start to finish. Reminiscing of the shorts Disney put in front of their films, Taiko also use the unique visual medium to its fullest potential without any spoken dialogue at all, making it a delightful discovery when I found out this is the studio's first project after being founded last year. They even won awards! I can only stars shining bright in their future and cannot wait to see what they will come up with next!
Power Rangers Legacy Wars:
Being just a tie-in to a game, it is shocking how well the short turns out! With Bat in the Sun teaming up with Lionsgate and Capcom, it is a sight to see Power Rangers fighting side by side with Street Fighter characters in one shared universe against a common enemy of M. Bison. This is the perfect marriage between the Youtube's famous fight choreography background and two fight-heavy properties being blended together to birth out this gem. I wish it could have been longer and I want Chun Li to have her own Power Ranger suit! This goes to show that in-game characters will work in live action if given to the right group of people to handle them properly.
Star Wars Resistance
[Lucas Arts]
Unable to catch its premiere yet, I just want to touch upon the backlash online by the vocal few when it was originally announced. Granted that this new 'anime' look will not be everyone's cup of tea but it is farfetched to criticize it for being a kid version of Star Wars when it is debuting on Disney Channel! The vibrant colours and stylised visuals will certainly appeal to the younger demography but that's not necessarily a bad thing since it would help the more casual viewers to be able to tell the Star Wars series apart from each other. Speaking of which, the predecessors took time to find their groove and find their footing until after a season or two hence why they should have given the series a chance in the first place before judging them based on how they look. Besides, this may be the perfect medium for new fans to be introduced and get into this expansive universe and who knows, maybe this third series will be its own beast besides the Clone Wars and Rebels.
