Deadpool 2
Mini Non-Spoiler Review
[15th of April, 2018]
[PG-13, 1hr 47min, Action, Adventure, Nostalgia, Pop culture, Science Fiction]
Creative differences is the classic blanketed industry term that would be used as the valid basic reason behind the replacement of the original director (or more accurately the firing of said person in charge) with another, and in this instance was the clashing of approach between Tim Miller and the executive producer Ryan Reynolds, between going full superhero or still grounded down just like the original. David Leitch came in to bring Ryan's vision to life and after seeing the film myself, I can safely say that they certainly doubled down and going all out with the Deadpool element the second time around. Since the first time going was quite a gamble, they were quite apprehensive as they were experimenting with the first fully fledged authentic real life adaptation of the Merc with a Mouth (please look past that X-Men Origins version. Oh, speaking of which ...), and since they knew how well received it was, they are now much more flexible and freer to do more if they so choose, and indeed they chose to do with aplomb. If the predecessor wasn't to your liking, then so is the followup.

Since the first Deadpool movie was such a passion project for Reynolds, he deserves to have full creative control for the sequel since he had been championing the character for years before, and since he is essentially born to play the tragic superhero with his brand of humour and his one-of-a-kind charisma, I personally wouldn't mind watching him as the titled protagonist for hours dispensing quips nonstop and breaking the fourth wall endlessly. Speaking of which, his jokes and references would be too much for some since they appeared to be increasing in quantity and whether or not they land for you, just be ready to be entertained (or drive to madness) through the whole film from start to finish. I love every single one of them by the way, so if my opinions bear weights for you, all the better. Just like how I mentioned in the subtitle of the blog, I couldn't stop laughing at all at every minute while being grossed out at the same time when the excellently bloody action sequences start at least every half an hour or so. They definitely use the R rating to the fullest with the goriness and of course the black and dirty humour.

If I wanted to compare between the first and the second, I have to say that the storyline of the former is better in its execution and central storyline while the latter has the simplest of storyline with the barest of central theme comparatively, with how they integrate the formation of X-Force and the inclusion of Cable could have been done better retrospectively. That is quite a nitpick since I love the journey more than the destination akin to a thrilling rollercoaster ride! The casting couldn't have been better with Josh Brolin plays the perfect straight man to the wisecracker while Zazie Beetz as Domino is the breakthrough star of the film with every scene she is in being that much more entertaining as she is trading quips with Deadpool blow by blow. The kid, Julian Dennison has a bright future ahead of him if his performance in the film to be based on and while some have been pushed aside to make way for the new characters (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), they smartly keep building Colossus up with a character arc continuing on from the first and I think they leave the potential follow up whether it is X-Force of Deadpool 3 with a strong foundation to play off of. The future is still up in the air with the Disney/Fox deal could be hijacked by Comcast but who would you prefer for the owner to be? Though I believe that if Fox is bought by Comcast, all the Marvel properties would revert back to the original owner anyway, or so I understand.

P.S. Oh, I have to say that the director coming off John Wick used that particular experience to his benefits with the gun-fu and hand-to-hand and weapon combat looking better than ever! They look so good that I want to see them again!
P.P.S. There is only one mid-credit scene so you don't have to wait until the end again! I laughed and applauded the hardest during the scene! If you can, do watch it with a crowd that would understand the humour and pop culture references, as my particular viewing had the people that appreciate them as much as I did! It was a fully filling viewing experience.
