Tips, see Thursday 007 & misc list 035
Well, since it just started, let me give you tips to see the fasting goes by faster. These work based on my own experience (which I hope work for you too):
#019: keeping it busy
Even if you are not a Muslim, you can try fasting since it is still good for your health and help you discipline yourself. With that being said, being unable to eat for the whole daylight can be daunting and excruciating but I keep myself busy to pass the time by turning my focus on something else and overlook the occasional grumbling of my stomach. Everyone have their own things that need constant focus to do that appeal to their own distinct taste, and mine are drawing and scour the internet. Keep your mind busy, anything else would not feel as important anymore.
#020: replace one with another
As much as you want to keep your mind away from thinking of food and drinks every moment you are being kept away from them, sometimes it just can't be helped, right? Especially when you are going through the same routine as you did pre-fasting just without a hot coffee in your hands for example. I find it easier to digest (pardon my use of expression) if you could conjure up a new routine that you can keep to for awhile (or maybe for the whole day you're giving it a go), filling in the void that was left. When my routine of morning Ali Cafe hot drinks is postponed for a whole month, I replaced it with a short but sweet stretching. It's not much, but it keeps my body moving and my mind occupied.
#021: don't tempt your temptation
When you don't anything to eat for the whole day, the urge to fill that void with as much food and drinks as possible when the break fast come and go would be enormous if you are new to this sensation but I must urge you to not give in so easily, right away negating the positive effects of fasting on your body right away. You should know your own likes and dislikes and what would be your favourite to be bought in the nearest bazaar, but you should also know how to keep yourself in check, not giving in into what you want and just buy everything you laid your eyes on or catch a sniff of the aroma. That is the purpose of this religious experience and even if you are not practicing Islam, this could be a great exercise for you to go through to better yourself or just joining in in this atmosphere. You are welcome to do so and I will gladly keep you company with this challenging task!
