Adam Ruins Everything s02e01 Adam Ruins Having A Baby
As many things that I get exposed when I'm online, Youtube has been giving me a lot of gems from countless of miscellaneous random items and Adam Ruins Everything is one of them. Internet is the source of all information but among them are a lot of useless ones and unfortunately incorrect ones, and Adam Conover took upon himself to be the harbinger of doom for those who keep perpetuating the common misconceptions of everyday occurrences. Sure, he can't always get everything right and he even acknowledge that and give corrections on past mistakes on some of the earlier episodes since he is such a stickler for providing his audiences with accurate information! Starting off with his own sketch on College Humour, his surging popularity (whether being received positively or getting negative feedback, he certainly garner attention ... like they said, any publicity is a good publicity!) gains him his own dedicated television show on trutv, dedicating each episode to one broad subject and breaking down a number of widely spread misconceptions on the topic. Using the premise of having his own show in a meta commentary and a simple storyline to act as a much needed levity to balance the always sad truths that have mostly been hidden from society for the benefit of the few or even just being misunderstood for so long. This second season starts with aplomb as they went on a hypothetical journey of having a baby to pinpoint the misconception of biology clock running off at 35, baby formula is bad for baby, and postpartum depression ... I appreciate that they use the specialists they invited on the show even more by sitting down with them and asking further questions, enlightening the viewers even more on the subject matter at hand. Watch it to have a laugh while even more so to get educated on a broad scope of subjects. I'll keep tuning in, Adam Conover!
Happy Together e523 the Goddesses Special p2 & Sing My Song
Another South Korean variety show that I have tune in since the first time I found it on the local Astro, Happy Together have gone through a number of transformations over the years as I was there during the final moments of them being in that sauna set. I know the show was using that setting effectively for years before and I particularly enjoy the last segment of each celebrity guest bringing their own unique cheap dishes but with the ever changing landscape of the medium of television, they would not be able to stick to their tried and true formula and still garner the same amount of audience week by week since there are a lot of other different shows out there with varieties of entertainment values. The change is inevitable and I think it is for the better! Despite being in a different language that I do not speak in, I am having a lot of fun watching the hosts interacting with the diverse range of celebrities that consist of actors, singers, and comedians, having laid back (sometimes candid) conversations on their daily life, their professions and everything in between. Being led by the forever leader of MC, Yoo Jae Suk, the atmosphere are never too serious during the recording while using the variety angle to the fullest degree, giving them space to showcase their talents no matter how obscure or unique they are, resulting in them getting their guards down and let them loose and relax them down. The viewers would be able to see a different side of each celebrity that we would never see before, a trait that I can only see on shows in Korea, a much more natural progression compared to the fast pace of America's late night talk shows. After the short run of the drawing sketch (which I loved actually!), they spice it up with the Legendary Big Mouths (that's correct, right?) segment, recruiting the five veterans of the industry to revisit the shows of yesteryears that they were involved in before, which resulted in a trip down the memory lane and reemergence of concepts that were so popular before. I'm not sure whether or not they would do the revisit again in the future but I'm glad that they finally have a segment that vibe with the modern audiences. Sing My Song have been the biggest source of laughs for me especially for this particular episode since the 'ending' singers had the opportunity to come back and regain their honour, resulting in a lot of snarky and annoyed remarks towards each other. It's all in jest, of course, but I can't wait to see how this fight would turn out and who would be the king of the kings!
WWE NXT Takeover Philadelphia
Despite not being given much more air time that they sorely deserve, NXT keeps on producing quality products week by week and they consistently put out all the stops for every Takeover Pay-Per-View that there is always a guarantee that they would be in a much better final product comparatively to the main roster's, most of the time. The brainchild of Triple H, NXT is given a lot of free reign to craft their up and coming talents from the ground up and tell a much more compelling and solid storyline, having more room for nuances and not bogged down by cliched writing by writers who do not understand their characters! As I've mentioned before, I'm not sure the trend of them signing independent talents one after another would be beneficial for the homegrown talents in the long run, but it would certainly help in building up the roster and raise the prestige even more. After the insanity that was the War Games, they started the year with a solid first outing by first cementing the Undisputed Era as the most dominant stable on the brand at the moment, with Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly going over the once dominant force in Authors of Pain by showcasing their cunning and tactical minds by cutting down the giants limb by limb and execute that specific plan to a tee. The brawn couldn't get over the brain this time but they certainly put on the hurt over the comparatively pint-sized champions, putting them over as they are reportedly getting ready to get call up anytime soon. Velveteen Dream keeps on reinventing himself after that star-making match with Aleister Black with this hard-hitting match, putting on his boxer persona complete with the robe, the shorts and of course a couple of his posses. This kind of performance shows me how bright his future is and making me nervous at the same time when he is finally take that big plunge into the Red or Blue Brand. Having lose Asuka as the main pillar of the Women's Division shook the roster a bit but now with Ember Moon at the helm, they need that raw talent that other wrestlers would fear again and Mae Young Classic provides just the perfect candidate in Shayna Baszler (I will keep holding up hope they would utilize them more ... maybe their own specific show! At least Candice Lerae got signed is as well). She doesn't need to be undefeated but just being able to give a threatening performance which she did, dominating the Champion that had to scrape by to keep her title. The division got the short end of the stick in the weeks leading to this PPV, but hopefully the other talents would be developed more and get more exposure in the ring. Aleister Black suffered his first pin because of Adam Cole (BABY!!!) and they would come to a clash in the most appropriate way: Xtreme Rules! They certainly use it to their advantage and put on quite a brutal show, and that back-to-back chair spot was particularly cringe-inducing! Oh, last but not least, the match of the year candidate is between the Andrade Cien Almas and Johnny Gargano! Watch it for over half an hour of pure wrestling that WWE could put out in a while ... this match made me want to do a full review of this Takeover to fully complement for a job excellently done! Wow ... Royal Rumble better step it up!
