a Wrinkle in Time - Half Hour Happy Hour - RISK!
auditory/podcast pull-list 001
There are a number of pop culture medias that I have consumed and I want to diversify a little, giving you a little variety other than the usual pop culture dailies:

a Wrinkle in Time audiobook
I believe I have mentioned this before somewhere in the past but since I am still in the middle of it, just exiting the act one and entering the next phase of the storyline, I want to highlight it again and wants you to join in the experience. Without reading the synopsis and only exposed to the trailer of Disney's live action adaptation, I want to 'read' the original literature by Madeleine L'Engle and would compare it with Ana DuVernay's counterpart, just like how I did before with Ender's Game and later down the line this year with Ready Player One. If you are not familiar with the concept audiobook, it is a professionally-read version of the book that you could listen to when you are in transit from one to another or when you lend your ears while busy doing work with your hands. Sure, there is always pros and cons when moving from one medium to another as for example you could never match up the level of your own imagination when reading it yourself compared to when it is being read to you, but it is a convenient alternative that would be needed in today's fast-paced culture. Regarding the audiobook itself, it does take some time getting use to the lisp of the original author since she herself is reading her own work (I'm pretty sure it her at the beginning but can't be sure it is still her performing the first few chapters of the book) but that small negative is being offset by her constant enthusiasm in getting into each character's role and giving them depth and personality. I am just about to enter the 20th part of 72-part series and a hint of sound effects and voice contortions in the last couple of parts are hinting of an otherworldly journey waiting for me to delve into next!
Half Hour Happy Hour e180 Flames of Musk
Coming across the podcast when it is being added into the extensive library on the Nerdist Channel for their Drunkmas two years ago, being introduced to their most jovial (and yes drunk) version might not have been a good idea for some, but it is a good measuring stick that would deter others that would be turn off by their laidback and candid interaction. I am still a listener because I have been a fan ever since and maybe I will highlight in the currently-in-hiatus podcast section in the future to expose them to more potential listeners! Podcast is a fickle thing especially when it involves more than one voice because everyone holds their conversation very differently from one another and that's why one podcast could be a valid source of entertainment to some but could be too much to others because they could not get into their vibe. I suffered the same symptom before when I listened to Keith and the Girl for the first time, only being a fan after coming back to it for the second time and thankfully because of that, I am more open to this conversation-heavy format of the podcast and this particular one with Alexander Albrecht and Allison Haislip (and of course Tom 'Super Volcano' Craiofsky Krajewski) is a fun listen as they shoot the ... crap on their daily personal life and that would tie into the technology news of the week i.e. since Alex have his own TESLA which is trendy and perfectly fitting, giving his first hand experience that would help the listeners in understanding the news. In this episode, you can hear them use their platform to help a fellow listener in his quest to fight cancer in kids in the more serious turn they could take while in the same breath being recorded ordering Elon Musk's Boring Company flamethrower 'on air'. They somehow could tie each topic to each other and that's what makes me love listening to them more than ever! :-D

Over months ago I highlighted this podcast just because of their level of honesty and acceptance of every facet of people from every walk of life. If you've listened to one of the episodes before, you know that Kevin Allison is one peculiar host and his personal stories being told across the seasons just cements his place as the de facto face of the podcast! With that theme in mind, this presents a perfect collaboration with another podcast, Bawdy, that celebrate the same human values as RISK, presenting the listeners a wonderful mix of, safe to say, Not-Safe-For-Work personal stories of people that have their own sexual story that they want to share with us all. Even though I am far less experienced and adventurous than them myself, I have learn to accept each of them through this podcast and can appreciate them embracing who they really are without the fear of being ostracized. I have a good time listening to them which I hope you guys would take this opportunity to give it a go as well. It's worth it!
