Over the top, artificial beauty standards
What?
A real life experience of how the endless commercials for perfected beauty standards that affect even the most smartest people out there have been influencing the daughter of OP's friend.
Who? How? Why?
According to OP (original poster), even if the kid is as funny and smart as she is, she isn't invincible from being influenced by her surrounding and at her current gullible age, any exterior feedback could be powerful enough to turn their minds for better or for worse depending on the variables. Even when there a enough positive role models around kids, the cosmetic and beauty industry have such a stronghold in the world's economy that they could have commercials as much and as big as they can and with that constant imagery being displayed in front of you, it subconsciously instill in you what the public view how 'the standard of beauty' looks or at least the intangible perfect version of it.
Then?
Constant positive reinforcements are what is needed when the young minds of the youth begin to get affected by the endless chase of artificiality although we should let them express themselves first, let them voice their opinions on the matter and why it is affecting their view of beauty negatively. Then we should respond accordingly and inform them that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not everyone should look a certain way to be viewed as beautiful by the society.
So?
It is all perspective that when you allow yourself to view the world in a certain way that would benefit others but not yours and stay with you for the rest of your life, it would be nigh impossible to change that negative outlook for the better. That is why it is vital to foster a body-positive approach in the young minds of children as early as possible to avoid worse instances in the future.
Lesson Learned:
Do not let commercials mold the way you look at the world as it would only benefit them in the end while you question how much you're worth in the eyes of the artificial world.
