"Life cannot be contained. Life breaks free. Life finds a way."

Trailer Review 056 & Movie Preview 037
Jurassic World: Forgotten Kingdom
Universal Pictures
[22th of June, 2018]
Trailer Effectiveness =
over 80% for establishing the premise and world-ending narrative.
Chance of Success =
over 90% with the first reboot's massive success in the cinema.
a case for the déjà vu of a sequel:
+ Highlights +
A natural progression for the franchise in the current state it is in, although the magic may be fading...
? Main contention ?
How much would B.D. Wong's character, Henry Wu, play a part considering how he left the island?
~
With the 2015 reentry into the wonderful world, the 1.6 billion earning worldwide was more of an indicative of how popular the franchise is and the novel experience of seeing dinosaur being materialized in the big screen again rather than how well made it was. Will that nostalgic and novel tinge sustain another outing or should they be more worried the second time around?
- Lowlights -
History repeating itself could be viewed as pure nostalgia trip without much new invention although exploding volcano present a new threat which itself a callback of its dormant inclusion in the original book by Michael Crichton.
-
"These creatures were here before us. And if we're not careful, they are gonna be here after."
a case for the earth-shattering trailer:
+ Highlights +
Using one of the more memorable mainstay characters in a logical way instead of ham-fisted them in, an expert with hands-on experience giving weight to the case of saving the once again endangered dinosaurs.
~
There are a number of memorable scenes i.e. the compsognathus in the shop, the brachiosaurus and Chris Pratt's character holding up his hand to Blue and the raining down of volcanoes ... oh, getting saved by Rexy, again, from getting eaten by a new dinosaur, Carnotaurus.
? Main contention ?
With the more prominent use of CGI in this recent reinterpretation, how much is too much in the end that the original Steven Spielberg's shine would wear off, especially with the volcanic explosion?
- Lowlights -
It could be a fakeout or red herring whereby the explosion of the volcano is not the third act sequence considering how dire it looks but rather in the opening segment and we spend the rest of the film dealing with the consequences on the island itself and the inhabitants.
~
That Rexy scene could have been saved for the movie itself as it is a nice surprising moment, but it is the nature of the trailers nowadays that they think every trailer needs some hooks, even to the detriment of the final viewing experience. Let's hope they have much more surprises in store.
