Song of the Day 004
Will the Circle be Unbroken
Courtnee Draper & Troy Baker {vocal & guitar}
[Bioshock Infinite Original Soundtrack]

Artist Attractive Traits =
Simplicity in its approach let the listeners focus solely on her emotive vocal.

Even though it has been years since it came out, I still remember the game vividly as Interplay produced an excellent product with effective world-building and engaging storyline as we go through the majestic city in the clouds as Booker deWitt accompanied by Elizabeth. As mind-blowing as seeing how far the series had evolved to (and unfortunately would not continue after the premature death of the studio), it is how well the trilogy concluded orchestrated by XXX and this particular song is the best choice to represent the game and its heartbreaking conclusion. Despite being written by older songwriters years ago, it is how well and fitting the lyrics are to their journey and the overall storyline, but the most important of all is the soft yet emotive vocal of Courtnee Draper, effectively coming through her singing the longing and bittersweet emotion that made this cover meant so much more. Whether it was intentional or not, that moment when she lose her voice almost at the end of the song is the highlight of the piece in my humble opinion, the moment when she let her emotions got the better of her. I'm not mad if it's a fabricated instance since it is effective in the end. These are the reasons why it will always be in my playlist. Do you think it deserves to be in yours?

Chance of Mainstream Success =
Voiceover talents have never experienced a successful transition to a full fledged singer before.
"Will the Circle be Unbroken"

There are loved ones in the glory,
Whose dear forms you often miss;
When you close your earthly story,
Will you join them in their bliss?

Chorus:
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

In the joyous days of childhood,
Oft they told of wondrous love,
Pointed to the dying Saviour;
Now they dwell with Him above.

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

You remember songs of heaven
Which you sang with childish voice,
Do you love the hymns they taught you,
Or are songs of earth your choice?

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

You can picture happy gath'rings
'Round the fireside long ago,
And you think of tearful partings,
When they left you here below.

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

One by one their seats were emptied,
And one by one they went away;
Now the family is parted,
Will it be complete one day?

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

a case for the acoustic rendition cover of an extremely fitting song:
+ Highlights +
Soothing voice with slow pacing allowing us to focus on the lyrics that are effectively portrayed by her emotive tone and melodic intonations as the accompanying guitar strumming complete the piece.
? Main contention ?
It just keep my farfetched wish of it getting much deserved followup someday alive.
- Lowlights -
That cracking of the voice could be a detriment to those who are perfectionists although to me it make the singer appear human i.e. imperfect and therefore much more relatable.
{ On the surface and/or underlying themes }
The lyrics if being appropriated to the game series, it can be applied to the citizens of the new world in the clouds and those who were left behind on the ground below. Rather than talking about going into the afterlife, it could be about literally going into the sky above (or being brought to life again) to live peacefully in a perfect society.

P.S. I don't believe I've actually finished the Burial at Sea DLC yet! Now I can't wait to see the full conclusion of the series!
