"Are we always foreigners?"

topic of the day 033 & video of the day 028
Americans of Chinese heritage with Southern Accents
living in the Mississippi Delta

What?
A migration of Chinese people to the USA to work as hard labor as necessity was paving the way for an eclectic community in the middle of Mississippi that spans generations while contributing to the society and a place of their own despite many adversities and racism even until now.
How? Who?
Having to stay and adapt after the abolishment of enslavement, they catered to the surrounding community to get by by finding that particular niche, finding themselves in a foreign place and making the best of it, slowly assimilating to the surrounding environment and make it their own.
Why?
It is apparent when you heard how they talk with the thick Southern American accent that they are no different than the natives of the area and even applying some of the local methods to their cuisine, embracing the situation head on resulting in a happy marriage of East and West, so to speak.
Then? So?
There will always be those ignorant few that would judge people just based on their outer appearance and even start to question without any common decency when we do not match their perceived notion of a certain race. I applaud them for taking it in their strides and accept them as they are as many others treat them the same as well. Being a new person in an unfamiliar place would present a lot of obstacles but it matters how you deal with them in the end.

Lesson Learned:
Don't judge a book by its cover. It matters where are you now, not where you were from.
