Teaser Review 007 & Movie Preview 013
Ralph Breaks the Internet:
Wreck-It Ralph 2
DISNEY
[November 21st, 2018]
Trailer(s) Effectiveness = 90% for showing the casual fans how they are in the same universe as other Disney properties, at least online, teasing it as an entertaining side tangent.
As I've mentioned in my earlier post before (the link is down below), the virtually endless vastness of virtual online space that is the internet has both a vast possibility for a movie adaptation to go through and a crippling trait as well as people would find it hard not to adapt as much as possible and fit them into one motion picture. After seeing the teaser and this first official full trailer, we start to see which direction they would firstly go for this sequel, not surprisingly into a particular world of their own: Disney! I can understand the criticism of them actually showing their massive conglomerate side by including their most well known properties in a movie of their own rather clearly and not just another hidden Easter Eggs. I'm not that pessimist though as seeing Star Wars, Eeyore and classic Disney properties in the same silver screen for the first time ever is such a wonderful treat for die-hard fans of the universe! Speaking of which, the ones at the forefront of their classic movies are of course the Disney Princesses! Wow! I've heard of the preview of this particular scene months ago but seeing it myself is such a mind-blowing event for me as a fellow Disney fanatic, seeing all of these animated female protagonists from the very first until the very recent (Snow White(?) to Moana) with some finally being properly adapted into a fully 3D renders from their original drawn counterpart and actually seeing them in one place and interacting with each other! Seeing them treating the newest princess, Vanellope, as a treat was a genuine delight, with Cinderella breaking her own glass slipper into a weapon the biggest highlight for me! Having the Stormtrooper chasing her in particular is an interesting plot development, stemming from their actions in the first film or that tease of Ralph himself 'wrecking' the internet. I'm pretty sure this detour into the world of Disney would be just a small adventure in the first act, or so I hope, since he is first and foremost a game character and there are so many online properties that they could interact with. While we do not see any at all in this first full trailer, I believe they use this approach to make sure the casual fans know Wreck-It Ralph is in fact in the Disney lexicon and they will use the following trailers and marketing materials to emphasize the real adventure Ralph and Veneloppe would stumble into.

Chance of Success
85% with inviting invitation back into its world and now with internet in the horizon, the world is their oyster so to speak.

a case for the dive into the online empire of the Mouse:
+ Highlights +
Bringing all of the Disney properties under one roof of their official site by putting Marvel's and Star Wars characters at the same place while finally bringing (almost) all of the Disney princesses together in the same screen! Seeing some in now 3D models compared to their hand-drawn counterpart made my heart grew bigger than ever before. I'm not sure I can take it when I actually see it in the theater ... hey, a grown man can gush to please the child in me!
? Main contention ?
I sincerely hope that they won't spend too much time in the parent company's site and actually putting the online game premise to good use instead of just using the 'online' in that phrase.

Being now two people in a foreign land would bring a lot of possibilities for them to go down in, and I am looking forward to see where they would specifically go in this second iteration.

It might be coincidental for two movie trailers in a row have a commentary on the male-dominated genre while having the prior movies themselves actually stay true to that notion, with Ralph come to Venellope's rescue while Emmet came to Wyldstyle's in the LEGO Movie (truth be told, the female counterparts are actually stronger than their predecessors in the industry and can actually hold up on their own, but they were ultimately saved when their backs were against the wall). It is always good to have the entertainment properties being aware of themselves and how they represent the society but if their actions should be louder than their words.
- Lowlights -
As much as I can justify their action, the detractors would point in the direction of this trailer as the epitome of Disney being a money making machine. Trailer is such a tricky marketing ploy to get right and whether it was cut by the trailer company or mandated by the studio itself, it is an effective effort nonetheless since any publicity is a good publicity.

Well, they actually did address the issue of the clunky title. It might play into the plot of the storyline itself, but they must know how "Ralph Wrecks the Internet" is a better title ... it was referring to an already outdated online phenomenon. They are dating this feature a few years back if they keep at it.
