a change of guard, for better or worse
Sunday Soapbox 003
a new chapter
[ Malaysia ]
Well, not that mad really but just perplexed at how bias my parents' perspective on the current political climate. If you are out of the loop, our country Malaysia is having a historic landmark by having another political party taking the reign of shaping the country, the first time ever since our independence in 1957. Having a former leader teaming up with the Opposition certainly helped the case in the most recent election but I view it as a fresh start under a new leadership, finally letting those who opposed the former establishment to back up what they have been promising for all these year. The question is, would it be too critical to question every move they make though, even as early as it is now in the four years term?
It is the good and the bad of the two-system party whereby the ruling party would be subjected with scrutiny over every move they make as the government which I believe works to a fault in order to showcase any misstep in the decisions they make to fully benefits the citizens in the end. While some of them would not have constructive criticisms in them whatsoever, they should serve as the protector of our rights. Now it would be interesting to see the once ruling party is being sidelined and have to look from outside in but their critiques should be much more concise and pinpoint since they were once in their shoes before.
Having the inability to know the ins and outs of the government ourselves, we as Malaysians could only judge what we are presented with in the local news. Having watched Philip DeFranco Show for over a year now, I know that everyone have their own bias in delivering news despite their best intentions (or maybe that was their intention from the start), and it is hard to get it as it is without any favoritism to any side! With that being said, I can say that my mother is especially critical of the new establishment without much valid reasons to support her disdain. Since Pakatan is a coalition between Malay and Chinese, it is only natural for the latter to be integrated into governmental positions as well compared to the previous all-Malay Barisan Nasional body. It might be a problem when the Peguam Negara is Chinese because he or she would oversee the Syariah Court as well, a specific Court especially made to deal with Islam affairs. I would temper my judgement for now as I think there is a way to go around that but my mother unfortunately seeing all these new Chinese members of the government as us (Malay) being used by them to benefit their community.
It is all opinions so far now since it's too early to see any apparent effect on the government or the economy as of now and I would exercise a caution before prematurely jumping to conclusion. Maybe it's for the best or maybe it's for the worse after all but as I've mentioned before, just wait and see, okay?
Will see if the abolishment of GST and revert back to the previous version would bare fruit in the end as the former was no more started this month while the latter would take effect again this September if I'm not mistaken ... we'll see if it would add to the country's debt or not in the end!
Fooh ... I feel better already!
