Jurassic World:
Fallen Kingdom
Mini Non-Spoiler Review
[07th of June, 2018]
[PG-13, 2hr 8min, Action, Adventure, Dinosaur, Jurassic Park, Science Fiction]
The original Jurassic Park would always hold in high regards as Steven Spielberg's masterpiece in creating a fully realised, breathing world full of wonder and thrills and it couldn't be matched let alone surpassed by the preceding predecessors. With the recent modern reboot-slash-sequel in Jurassic World didn't exactly played as well with the critics, it actually did with the audiences around the world as a bonafide box office success, proving that people would always clamour for anything that revolves around dinosaurs, especially when it's in the universe of the famous park!
For better or for worse, we follow upon the aftermath of the incident in the first film as the world is reeling from the prison or rather park break of the dinosaurs from their enclosures and have been roaming the island freely without any human involvement anymore. With a real ticking clock counting down the demise of these clones that were just being brought back to life in the form of the now active volcano that is about to erupt, the government wouldn't help in evacuating the trapped 'animals' since they are all just a property of a private company, not exactly under the same jurisdiction of endangered animals. This forces the main protagonists to come back to the island to try and save them before it's too late with the help of well-meaning individuals with deep pockets. That is the main throughline of the sequel and then what happens with the dinosaurs post-eruption.
The relationship between Chris Pratt's character, , with Blue, is actually the main highlight of the film as they are surprisingly being given the spotlight, to contrast narratively between the bonds made naturally between the dinosaur and human with the greed of human trying to profit off of them. I believe it is effective in its execution but where the movie goes in the second half would make or break your viewing experience, with your fondness of the recent narrative started in Jurassic World would decide your final judgement of Forgotten Kingdom. The cast is great especially Chris Pratt and xyz with the new addition shines well in their roles (with the kid xyz as the standout) although the main antagonists could have been better used and more layered in the end.
It is a well executed piece of cinema in and of itself but could never leave up to the original. It is a beast of its own and you should temper or rather adjust your expectation accordingly before going in.
P.S. That opening scene is classic Jurassic Park scene ... perfectly executed!
P.P.S. Oh, don't wait until the end of the credits if you want a meaty after-credit scene. It's a scene, but a tiny one.
