"We have to stop London before it destroys us."

Trailer Review 005 & Movie Preview 013
Mortal Engines
Written & Produced by Lord of the Rings' Peter Jackson
[14th of December, 2018]

Chance of Success =
70% with a unique outgoing premise although the strain of YA and the Christmas release could be their main variables that would affect them the most.

After seeing the latest full trailer, I now see the trajectory of where the storyline is going whereby it would be another young adult post-apocalyptic flick, for better or for worse. The trailer might be showing off almost the whole arcs of the film but it just shows how big the scale would be, especially considering the premise of cities being eaten by bigger cities and that would be a delight to see unfold before your eyes on the silver screen. The YA craze has die down tremendously over the last few years but a couple of efforts year by year still coming out by big studios and still received well by the audiences in the Maze Runner and Divergent for example, despite how critics assess them critically. I will enjoy the movie nevertheless despite whether or not they are targeted at me but looking at the current climate, I am not sure this would attract the same type of viewers back but the spectacle of war and big moving cities would be interesting in and of itself, bringing people into the cinemas on the visuals alone. I am optimistic of its eventual reception, being an alternative watch during the festive season at the end of the year.

Trailer Effectiveness =
80% for laying down the overall storyline albeit a bit too much, while the visuals and actions certainly would be their calling card.

a case for the another YA albeit in a quite an over-the-top world:
+ Highlights +
a novel idea in a moving city roaming a post-apocalyptic world while the inhabitants are fighting each other, which would be best appreciated on the silver screen.
? Main contention ?
another young adult series that's admittedly much more fantastical than the predecessors but unsure how it will play in today's climate and with the Death Cure ending the Maze Runner trilogy on a downward trajectory, it's not setting them up well to succeed.
- Lowlights -
can be misconstrued as another YA film and being unfairly overlooked.
