the Predator

Trailer(s) Effectiveness = 75% for teasing the impending doom coming for them and the eventual carnage being unleashed by the Predator(s).
There were a number of hit franchises that have their classic entries being followed up with virtually endless followups that lost the original's flavours and charms and turning up with cashgrab action nonsense time and time again. Predator is just one of those IPs that deserves so much more than a mindless AvP entry for example and in my humble opinion 2010's Predators was a solid sequel coming back to form but now this most recent endeavour wants to go back to its roots and focuses onto the alien invasion of Earth with the humans fighting for their lives, mostly for naught. Shane Black was in the first Predator as one of the unfortunate soldiers but is now back as an established director and poised to put his own spin on this much beloved action pop culture icons. Being back in the city brought back the bitter taste of the much-derived sequel but there were scenes in the jungle reminisces of the iconic first encounter, as the current premise sees criminals and government forces alike being forced into the Predator's way probably caused by that child appeared to be inadvertently crashing its spaceship. That was the main gist and with the teaser and trailer being cut as a typical action thriller, they do not paint this venture in the most positive light but since I enjoy all of this particular auteur's works, I know the finished product would be worth the wait. What do you think?
Chance of Success =
70% with the name brand combination of Predator and Shane Black although the now watered down franchise would need to do a lot to restore audiences' faith.
a case for the alien bloody hunt:
+ Highlights +
the thrills of the chase and then followed up with the eventual bloody encounters that is unlike any others.
? Main contention ?
so many iterations of the same premise over and over again with less and less competent execution ...
- Lowlights -
... that watered down the IP into a joke especially after the AvP monstrosities.
-
a case for the possibility of returning to glory by a returning cast:
+ Highlights +
solid cast with the IP returning back to Earth to where it all started.
? Main contention ?
the rather by-the-book premise and typical trailers put it in a peculiar position ...
- Lowlights -
... that I don't want to even think of Shane Black being unable to steer this project in the right direction.
