"And yet, it is true."

Trailer Review 025 & Movie Preview 034

Trailer(s) Effectiveness = 90% for effectively establishing the premise of mind trip and the eventual showdown between the three leads.
M. Night Shyamalan is a director with his own unique trait of third act twist that made us see him as the next Steven Spielberg but he couldn't live up to that loft expectation and naive potential based on his increasingly dismal track record. Yet it didn't deter him to keep coming back to make amends of his past failures and he started to do just that with the recent handheld camera film of the Visit and then he followed it up with the surprise hit of Split that came out of nowhere, from its effective thriller to his signature twist of it being a essentially a superhero-slash-supervillain origin movie and then as a cherry on top tying it into his earlier work of Unbreakable! It was a calculated risk taken by Shyamalan and thankfully it paid off in the end. Now he is set to tie it all together into a hopefully fulfilling trilogy that we definitely didn't see coming just a couple of years ago, by using all of established characters in the shared universe and assemble them in one film and create a coherent storyline for them to naturally interact with each other. Judging from the debut trailer, it is set to be one unique feature with the notion of a psychiatrist trying to study them before eventually they are unleashed onto the world and onto each other, making this one superhero flick that is unlike any other. The detractors might view this as a cash in the resurgence of the superhero genre but I believe it is a natural progression for the filmmaker to give his own take on it and giving us something uniquely his and it is refreshing to be able to look forward for another of his works again.
Chance of Success =
85% with a unique entry into the superhero genre and established actors with their own characters meeting each other yet again/for the first time.
.

a case for the enigmatic auteur and his rollercoaster of a track record:
+ Highlights +
Quite a colourful repertoire ranging from all over the genre film spectrum that cater to a diverse demography of moviegoers. Now he is back with a vengeance!
? Main contention ?
He is still a talented director considering the recent resurgence of his career which I hope he would be able to keep going with Glass. There is nothing like a wake up call to revitalise his approach on the medium.
- Lowlights -
There were a lot of lows and I still can't forgive him for treating Avatar the Last Airbender like that ...
-

a case for this ambitious attempt for a superhero crossover:
+ Highlights +
He is set for success with everything is available for him to succeed with intriguing premise for a superhero film and an excellent cast to execute his vision.
? Main contention ?
The variables are what would be included from the first two films in this ensemble piece and how would Anya Taylor Joy's character would play into the storyline.
- Lowlights -
Having it being a superhero flick instead of a supernatural thriller, I'm sure there are people who is disappointed with that twist for Split. I can see all the potential but there is always a chance for this project to fail spectacularly.
It depends on your perspective, really.
