Power Rangers
(Saban) [032417] Chance of Success =  75%

The title description of the teaser trailer opened the trailer. Okay ...
- the trend of spelling out everything for the viewers -

[00.04]
It's always welcome to see the logos of each company involved in a certain project to be represented in different ways according to the franchise. With the most recent successful iteration of WB logo in the veins of the Suicide Squad, the inclusion of the Rangers' colors in the LIONSGATE and Saban Brands collaboration looked particularly colorful and just showed how determined they are to make this iteration successful.

[00.06]
"Just to remind me of my screw-up?"
'Teenagers with attitude,' that was the main gist of the instruction given to Zordon to Alpha 5 to find the next Rangers in fight in his stead in the main series. Well, although that was pure plot creation without any representation in the show itself, in this motion picture it would be the major throughline for the characters as they appeared to meet in detention class every Saturday.
The apparent main lead of this story is Jason Lee Scott (aka the Red Ranger), showed to have wrecked his jeep under the pretense of drunk driving and paid for it with a constant monitoring by police to his father's chagrin, especially when they can't see eye to eye and he had to attend detentions just to graduate and mingle with the so-called "weirdos and criminals."
+ the possible character arc for the leader +
(notice the color of the jeep he apparently wrecked?)
- the change of personality of the leader -

[00.17]
Keeping only the name, the next move in taking chances is to change the series' more superficial setting with a more meaningful if nondescript place of origins. Instead of the original's sunny and cheery metropolis of California, this more isolated and sparse neighborhood with the dingy classrooms would be the monotonous base of their colorful characteristics, feeling more out of place and estranged in their own backyard and looking for something more outside of their usual tracks.

[00.22]
Now seeing the candidates for Rangers doing their usual habits, the more outgoing athletic Zack (aka the Black Ranger) was resting on top of the roof as per usual while the geek of the group Billy Cranston (aka the Blue Ranger) was trying to arrange his color pencils before being rudely disturbed by a familiar-looking bully but Jason stepped in just in the nick of time. Trini (aka the Yellow Ranger) also had her fair share of bullies, looking upon the scathing writings on her locker while Kimberly Hart (aka the Pink Ranger) was confronted by her 'friends' in the toilet on her tragic fate, frustrating her enough to make her cut her own hair short with a scissor to the amazement of Billy and admiration of Jason.
+ the beautiful mountains at the background, the more diverse personalities on show, the perfectly somber soundtrack, props for the guts to cut her (supposedly) own hair in front of the camera +
(everyone of them is subtly wearing the color of their eventual Ranger's armors)
- everyone have their own realistic problems ... just like in real life, right? -

[00.43]
"Somebody should've pointed them out ... wait, I did."
A change of scene saw the four of them being asked about being in a restricted area by Trini, and probably a jump in time seeing them probably stumbling upon an alien artifact. shining their lights into the see-through surface of the structure to see multi-colored discs but the intrigued Billy did one better by switching off the explosives already set there by supposed authorities and blew the whole thing down. Picking up the discs (or now coins) from the debris, they had only a short amount of time to admire the foreign objects before fleeing the scene before the arrival of rushing securities.
+ the change of origin of how they got their powers being their accidental(?) destiny instead of being chosen +
- another change, would it be acceptable to the series' fans? -

[01.04]

Instead of gaining the abilities of skilled martial artists when 'morphing' into their brightly colored Power Rangers costumes, the direct contact with the coins change them physically with the rapid growth of muscles and the ability to exude super strength experienced by Jason while Billy now didn't have problem to stand up against the redheaded bully, his headbutt attempt bounced off of him to both guys' surprise. Maybe trying to test the power of the coins first hand, both of them with Kimberly put their hands on each respective coin and they reacted back with the explosions of cans, melting of plastics and burning hot of the steel surface, forcing them to go back to where this originated.
+ getting used to having superhuman abilities because of the coins +
(notice the red coin flashing bright when he broke the sink?)
- props for them for going all the way with it -

[01.20]
Testing their newly gained abilities, they all went out to the mountain and proceeded to jump off from one side to the other side seemingly effortlessly, but not without Billy's disapproval whom did it anyway with accompanied screaming along the way. Appeared to be diving into a body of water, they all swam in one specific direction, finally reaching the 'otherworldly bottom' or rather the other side's surface and looking back safely from the other side, possibly standing on a cavern.
+ having to get used to their newfound powers themselves, throwback nod on the classic Power Rangers jump  +
(the smirk on Kim's face before testing her power)
- Chronicle vibe? -

[01.39]
They then encountered again the same alien structure with greenish hue and extraterrestrial designs to the delight of Zack, with the following short snippets seeing the two girls standing back to back with familiar kung fu stances while Zack (possibly) practicing his leg kick on top of a moving train but the next two scenes saw them fleeing from a mining site and accidentally knock down the mining mill after bumping off the supporting beam just in front of the oncoming cop car. The aftermath of resulting tumbling of the car wasn't shown but the surprise romance between the Red and Pink Ranger followed suit, as the teaser lingered on the shot of all the chosen teenagers looking at the red coin held by the leader, probably getting ready to take on the responsibility they came with.
+ the tease of their trademark martial art moves +
(would the authorities be on their side, or trying to catch the would-be vigilantes?)
- the start of a forbidden(?) romance  -

[01.53]
"I've killed Rangers before ..."
Appeared suddenly hovering above Trini's bed, Rita Repulsa' screen debut seen her showing a particular interest in the Yellow Ranger.
+ more hands-on (literally) main villain and perfectly menacing voice and portrayal while floating only in her green armor, the side storyline of her and the Yellow Ranger possibly corrupting her , the possible existence of Rangers before them that Rita had apparently killed before +
(she has the scepter!)
- yes, the change is drastic but she looks the part -

[02.01]
"It's happening!"
The last scene saw them all in position to suit up, finally morphing into the now all-new suits as Jason got the only shot of actually morphing into his own.
+ everything is being redesigned to the highest of quality possible +

(notice the already made five podiums? would there ever be Green Ranger)
- the classic Zord's head in a tube look might not be coming back -

Cast
Bryan Cranston as Zord, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader as the voice of Alpha 5,
