Borrowed Time
by Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhad
What?
A really well done short in a well trodden genre but with a heartfelt and tragic twist.
Who?
Two animators of Pixar fame use their expertise in conjuring up a more adult story but still tug into our heartstrings.
How?
-
Why?
Stigma attached to animation that it is only made for family friendly audiences is changed here with their genuine attempt to tell a moving story that is smartly using the medium to its advantage and to its current fullest potential.
Then?
It's too bad that they had to remove the full free video from the internet when it was circulated heavily last week but it is understandable since they had to protect their works.
Maybe this was an effort too little to late since the viewers who hasn't seen it couldn't watch it in its full glory (I have it but can't upload it in fear of being taken down), but it is still too great of a short to not being highlighted again and again.
~ Synopsis ~
Two Pixar animators have released Borrowed Time, which is wound up for ultimate heartbreak as a sheriff revisits his tragic past.
Forget Lava and Sanjay’s Super Team; the latest short film from Pixar’s incredibly talented team may be set in the Wild West, but has barely a trace of a silver lining.
Borrowed Time is a simple, six-minute story about an ageing sheriff who revisits the place where a great tragedy befell him and his father many years ago.
The sheriff has spent a lifetime trying to forget the tragic incident, and as he approaches, the memories come flooding back, and he is forced to reckon with the grief and guilt he can no longer contain.
The short was created by Pixar animators Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj, and produced by Amanda Deering Jones. The affecting soundtrack is delivered by Gustavo Santaolalla, the man behind Brokeback Mountain, Biutiful and the Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us.
Lesson Learned:
No matter the medium, anything can be used to tell a mature heartfelt story if you tried hard enough.
