Isn't the running boy a king called Soldado Gun?
movie check-in 001 the month of July, 2019
I have been increasing the time I spent on watching movies recently so there's a lot more for me to cover here instead of just one review at a time. Let's crack on with it!
Taking way too long to finish Call Me by Your Name but when I did, I was completely absorbed on the journey this two people go through to discover themselves by embracing each other. The bittersweet ending is really true to life and that moral of the story is really punctuated beautifully and succinctly by the father figure... that's a lesson everyone should learn at that age!
Hellboy... yeah, it didn't live up to expectation especially compared to the previous works by the master Guillermo del Toro but it still has its own hectic charms, certainly in line with this most recent take. Going full R doesn't always proof to be a sure fire way to be a hit just like Deadpool since the violence is there just for the sake of it.
Now here's a romantic comedy that I don't really mind watching! A smart meta take on the tired tripe, Isn't It Romantic certainly play to the usual beats but with biting commentary by the ever charismatic and hilarious Reba Wilson, use to perfection for her comedic timing rather than the usual slapstick comedy. A definite fun watch!
I do not know what to expect for Sicario: Day of the Soldado since the director and main actress didn't return for this followup but they certainly found what the tone and style of this franchise is and doubling down on it. It may not be up to the level of the original, but this next chapter is one hell of a ride... and that ending, though!
Heard good things on the Hate U Give for the performances as well as the script and I can finally attest to that myself. The sensitive racial undertone is handled very delicately from top to bottom of the life of everyday African Americans as we see the good, the bad and the worst parts. It doesn't feel preachy or too one-sided at all since it just put us behind the eyes of the protagonist and how the incident would unfurl naturally for her. Eye-opening!
Well, I won't fault you for saying it is the same the Lion King as the original animated film with hyper realistic CGI animating the gorgeous flora and the lively fauna. It has its own distinct charms that is entirely different than the 2-D counterpart so please bare that in mind. Do not walk in expecting it's your childhood all over again.
I know the hugely popular South Korean show takes inspiration from this flick so I had to check it out. The Running Man is actually a decent action romp that does not feel out of place at the time. Well... that is that.
Since he's coming back to it again after 35 years, I had to finally watch Top Gun after all the hubbub around the homoerotic volleyball scene and the bro atmosphere. Well, they're not wrong! I want to highlight Tom Cruise that really shines and shows his potential to be a bonafide star and the friendly rivalry really gets me hooked. That romance is quite cute as well! I do not expect that twist/tragedy in the middle though but how he comes back in the end really fill me with joy. Where will they go for the sequel? Hm...

Oh yeah, if you couldn't tell already, I am that type of person who plays a lot of games at the same time. Yup. Doesn't it feel weird jumping from one game to another? No, not so much. No.
