News 012 | Isle of Dogs | the Lion King's live-action adaptation

-
Wes Anderson's
Isle of Dogs
[2018]
Chance of Success =  over 90% just like that
-
a case for the director:
+ Positive +
Now with his own easily recognizable signature style of symmetrical framing, his movies would have that sense of wonder and adventure that propel the also colorful characters to play in its beautiful and detailed world.
? Main contention ?
Since he's now has a successfully proven formula, how much would he be willing to be straying away from it or would he rest on his laurels?
- Negative -
As per tradition with prolific filmmakers, when they have their own specific way in making movies, they tend to stick with it and subjectively it would not appeal to some audiences.
--
a case for the new movie and its genre:
+ Positive +
As scarce of information that is released, the mere prospect of the director's own flair coupled with an isle full of dogs that are animated by stop motion while voiced by a fully stacked and diverse cast would be an entertaining viewing experience considering his solid track record,
providing opportunity for his fans to even take part in the film itself by providing voice overs (as small as that may be “barking, howling & whimpering may be required”) in a noble guise to support Martin Scorcese's non-profit Film Foundation in preserving motion picture history.
? Main contention ?
Although the art of stop motion has been dwindling except from a few of constant efforts (i.e. studio Laika & Charlie Kaufman's Anomalisa), his now established household name would be a brand in and of itself and give the medium that much more mainstream attention after the wonderful movie albeit with modest success of the director's 2009 Fantastic Mr. Fox.
- Negative -
Stop motion in general inexplicably hasn't been accepted as well as the now conventional 3D CG animations with the most recent Kubo and the Two Strings underperformed.

- Description -
A stop-motion film taking place in Japan and follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog.

Cast
Edward Norton as Rex, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Jeff Golblum, ...

(Director - Wes Anderson [Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, the Grand Budapest Hotel].

the Jungle Book's director
for the Lion King
(Disney)
[?]
Chance of Success =  hm ... over 90% but cautiously optimistic
-
a case for the classic:
+ Positive +
One of the most memorable and critically acclaimed animated movie ever released by Disney that still holds up today with its world-class hand-drawn animation and emotion-tugging storyline among the characters and in their family.
? Main contention ?
Also universally known for its catchy signature songs and cartoony emotive animals with humanistic characteristics, how would it translate into a full feature adaptation?
- Negative -
None!
--
a case for the 'director and his Jungle Book:
+ Positive +
Juggling the responsibility to cater to the original tale while paying tribute to the more recognized Disney cartoon and using the most technologically advanced technology to reinterpret it into a fully digitized yet believable world, Jon Favreau did an exceptional job in executing the whole project as the sole human character grounded the fantastical aspect of the story and make it that much more alive.
? Main contention ?
Having to combine between the original book and its famous animated adaptation, finding the perfect balance between the realism forced by the realistically rendered animals and the more lighthearted take from the animation is almost impossible to be done and judging by the universal reception, they achieved it with aplomb.
- Negative -
Purist would always looked down on this more realistic attempt although the original is still there.
---
a case for the live-action adaptation:
+ Positive +
With now a proven formula of the Jungle Book live-action adaptation, it's a perfect circumstance for him to return and hopefully repeat and even improve on his effort now on another beloved Disney classic.
? Main contention ?
Having to return back into the fold so soon right after and doing essentially the same kind of project, could he be creatively overworked and repeat the Iron Man/ Iron Man 2 debacle? (although heavy studio interference played a vital part there and now is highly unlikely to be repeated especially after his free reigns on the Jungle Book proved fruitful).
- Negative -
now without any human character to act as an anchor and main focus to play against, how would the CG animals fare on their own and how well could the audiences relate with the characters now when they're acting presumably more humane than animalistic?

- Synopsis (animated movie) -
Lion cub and future king Simba searches for his identity. His eagerness to please others and penchant for testing his boundaries sometimes gets him into trouble.
