Trailer Review 044 Game Debuts and Gameplays

< Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite, the Last of Us 2 & the Walking Dead a New Frontier >
-
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite
(Capcom) [Q4 2017]

Trailer Effectiveness =  well over 90%
Chance of Success =  100%
-
a case for the franchise:
+ Highlights +
Lasting popularity among the fighting game community (still featured at Evo tournament) to this day despite the 2011 release just because of how well the varied gameplay and character balance stand the test of time,
having the diverse set of characters from each company fight each other in locations as colorful and unique as the characters themselves is the main attraction but the honed gameplay system ensure it even more.
- Lowlights -
The pull from online stores after license expiry in 2013 restrict Capcom from updating the game despite fan's pleas.
--
a case for the two universes:
+ Positive +
A gaming studio with strong holds in the industry in multiple genres (fighting, platformer) partnering up with a multimedia company leading the front in multiple fronts (comic, tv, movie) to combine strengths and compliment each other for a well rounded product each time,
? Main contention ?
With the time passing from the last entry into the franchise, how well the previous collaboration would be today in the current climate?
---
a case for the sequel and its trailers:
+ Positive +
Smartly using the already established Marvel Cinematic Universe and known worldwide as the basic universe and through line for the backstory of the crossover,
Inventive use of Infinity Stones as the replacement of the main 'Arcade System', having more tangential feel to the altering power ups (i.e. Power, Time) for the arcade fighter
? Main contention ?
There are possibilities of newer characters from both companies being overlooked in favor of fan-favorite characters from previous entries, favoring similarities over fresh and new,
using an established (Iron Man) and upcoming character of MCU (Captain Marvel), the possibility is endless for Marvel to include characters from the past movies and in the future, tying everything together and make the players feel connected
- Negative -
Possible politics behind the doors between Marvel and Fox might deter the mainstay from the former games from coming back, specifically characters of mutant origin (i.e. Magneto, Wolverine, X23) from the X-Men franchise that would certainly upset fans of the game and forgetting its roots of Capcom's 1994 X-Men: Children of the Atom.

the Last of Us part 2
(Naughty Dog) [120217]
Trailer Effectiveness =  100%
Chance of Success = definitely 100%
-
a case for the premise:
+ Positive +
A unique take on the zombie genre with pseudo-science backing it up and post-apocalypse background as well as engaging and emotional storyline to boot around the protagonists,
solid third person action with equal amount of tense stealth sequences and gun-blazing action,
exceptional work by the studio in creating such compelling characters revolving around the apocalyptic event and an emotional rollercoaster of a journey that would definitely tug at the heartstrings.
? Main contention ?
Perfect premise to be adapted into a full length feature motion picture, in due time ...
- Negative -
It would never be ported to other platforms! At least it stays true being an exclusive.
--
a case for the sequel:
+ Positive +
Changing perspective from Joel to Ellie ala the recent transition from Telltale's the Walking Dead Season One to Two, how she is now all grown up years later after the first game's event would be the main through line of this second part and how her state of mind would be.
? Main contention ?
A changed person after the journey with Joel in the first game, what kind of state would she be in and how much could your decision would affect her? Considering she's singing right after dispatching some guys with a fresh wound on her forehead, Ellie would definitely be a different beast altogether.
- Negative -
The inevitable exclusivity that would certainly upset those who doesn't have any console of PS3 and above.

the Walking Dead Season Three
(Sony) [083017]
Trailer Effectiveness =  100%
Chance of Success = almost 100%
-

a case for the new character:
+ Positive +
Seeing his first encounter with the walker in the shape of his deceased father, how the tragic effect of the outbreak would affect his remaining family members and when would he be when encounter Clementine down the line,
the inclusion of the race of Mexico and its culture is a nice gesture and hopefully play into the storyline more than just an introductory chapter for the character,
? Main contention ?
A changed person after the journey with Joel in the first game, what kind of state would she be in and how much could your decision would affect her? Considering she's singing right after dispatching some guys with a fresh wound on her forehead, Ellie would definitely be a different beast altogether.
- Negative -
Nitpickers might compare the Telltale's engine with the more high-end versions (i.e.in Uncharted and Tomb Raider) being as realistic as possible and going further away from uncanny valley, but the Walking Dead game is always based on the original's comic book looks.
