Trailer: a reboot, a unique commentary and a continuation of a franchise

Baywatch, Colossal &
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales

Baywatch
[May 26th, 2017]
Trailer Effectiveness =  just around 80% for the cast alone and the big-budget
Chance of Success =  definitely over 90% if previous box office to be believed
-
a case for the reboot:
+ Positive +
anchoring the simplistic premise with a two proven lead actors, one being the literal big gun Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson while the other, Zac Efron, having a solid turn after a young debut, both having the charisma and comedy chops to lead this big-budgeted blockbuster action replacing the original's more subdued take.
? Main contention ?
a modern retelling of a cheesy premise in the wake of the current trend of rebooting 90's popular franchises, with this particular one didn't offer much substance behind the thinly veiled sexual innuendos and 'sinful' tendencies ... whether it have anymore place in today's culture still remains to be seen,
the R rating could be used to their benefits by letting them doing anything without any limitation on their naturally inappropriate conversations between the cast and the dirty humor that they would include where they see sit, although the risk of them going overboard is more possible than before.
- Negative -
the supporting cast appears to be just an eye-candy without much acting abilities to support the two leads (Alexandra Daddario notwithstanding with her box office experience before although one can't argue her inclusion in the line-up is not because of her figure), with the rating letting them to lean heavily on their sexual contents without any repercussion when promoting the movie and maybe even fill it to the brim with unneeded sexualized contents (especially the actresses) to pander to the shallow-minded demographic.

Colossal
[April 7th, 2017]
Trailer Effectiveness =  well above 80% for the concept alone

Chance of Success = around 80% for the upbeat tone despite the casualties she caused
-
a case for the premise:
+ Highlights +
a unique take on the conventional movie trope of the monster genre, giving a mysterious nondescript psychic connection between a seemingly normal human girl with a gigantic monster all the way across the world.
? Main contention ?
with the debut trailer and the one proceeding it trying to introduce this bizarre premise by masking it with the surprisingly upbeat tone despite the body counts keep climbing up because of her actions that influenced the monster to do so, giving a different perspective on the usual morbid tone of a monster movie ... whether or not it's in tone of the overall movie, people is being led to one direction than the other.
- Lowlights -

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales
[May 26th, 2017]
Trailer Effectiveness = 75% with how well the trailers are
but the audience's dwindling interest would still be a major
Chance of Success =  80% for the name recognition itself
but the lead actor's current reputation though ...
-
a case for the franchise:
+ Highlights +
a big risk spinning off of Disney ride proven to be well worth taken with a multi-billion franchise coming out of it and a definite pop culture best representative of the pirate sub-genre with a strong supernatural twist to make it veer from the reality to the more extraordinary territory.
? Main contention ?
with a barebone of a concept and now a fully fledged universe revolving around a central main character involving himself in all sorts of mythology of the sea and a number of notorious pirates from the history, what and where else would the franchise go and how could they make it seem natural for the hero's journey?
- Lowlights -
dwindling interest from the viewers just show that the direction the franchise is going down is unappealing to them and doesn't interest them despite the improvement of the CGI effects and inclusions of other mythologies, and now the extramarital affairs of the lead's private life would be in some people's mind when he's being brought up and would deter them from future iterations.
