Trailer Effectiveness =
80% for effectively setting up the premise and an anticipated promise for more
Chance of Success =
over 80% because of the curious blend and immense amount of potential
a case for the unique premise grounded in reality:
+ Highlights +
Having a genre blend of fantasy and crime in the temporary setting, the end product should at least be something different and interesting in the current climate of the industry and it is commendable for the streaming platform to take the plunge and take a calculated risk.
~
It is in the same tone of his previous work, End of Watch, that is really well done and well received and since the fantasy elements would not be unfamiliar to the director after last year's Suicide Squad (pushing aside how the end product was), David Ayer would be in the best position to tackle this.
~
With the resurgence of golden era of television with more and more established actors and directors coming onto the smaller medium, with as big of a name as Will Smith as the lead and Joel Edgerton as the proven supporting actor, it is indicative of their confidence in this particular project.
? Main contention ?
The main dynamic between the leads would always be entertaining especially with the difference in race or more accurately species but how much would the movie focus on the crime aspect of the film just like in End of Watch instead of the admittedly more interesting fantastical nature of this premise?
- Lowlights -
It is not wrong to say that this movie have some shades of reality that is the underlying tone while the more magical elements from that genre would start to bleed through and be the main focus of the movie ... although that sort of aforementioned commentary would always a sore spot for a vocal few.
-

a case for the troubled director in difficult circumstances:
+ Highlights +
The big blip in his radar last year shouldn't overshadow his overall directing abilities because despite the unpolished nature of the ensemble movie, it still made $745 million worldwide (although it might fall far from the studio's expectation) and some of that success should be credited to him himself.

? Main contention ?
Doing a wonderful job in treating a colourful cast in Fury, the less incoherent way the villains coming together in Suicide Squad would bring up questions on his ability to handle big-budgeted studio feature in the future and how his relationship with WB would affect his relationship with others.?
- Lowlights -
That high profile stumble would keep clouding his career for the foreseeable future (the rumoured behind the scenes drama is the biggest factor in the outcome of that DC ensemble motion picture) but it is the best step forward to keep going with the next project as soon as possible with a smaller (albeit still largely budgeted) project. It will pass and he is taking positive steps to overcome it.
