"I'm strong to the linich 'cause I eats me spinach ..."

short of the day 004 & what if? 003
POPEYE
duration: 1 min 18 sec, released: September 18th, 2014
What?
An animation test by a studio for a scheduled full feature film of a classic animated property.
Who?
Canal Studio.
How?
With every project by a big studio, there is always a need to do a proof of concept to ensure they are on the right track and give it thumbs up to proceed with it.
Why?
The nature of these tests are they're not supposed to be out in public and maybe give audiences an unfinished preview of the product but in this particular instance, it is relatively finished with the current standard of CG animations met well as well as the trademark style of the original's characters and how they move are kept and represented well here.
Then?
Regarding the test itself, it is out in public because the project unfortunately fell through and the studio just released it to show the world their hard work and what could've been, maybe even gaining the attention from other studio that would be interested to fund it.
So?
It is unfortunate not every project could be greenlighted and gain their limelight in the box office but since this genre of movie take a long time to make well and if the publisher doesn't have enough faith in it being a success, they're entitled to call it quits before their investment proved to be a failure rather than a success.

+ Positive +
smooth animation and style with the original's unique styles and movements faithfully recreated here with the two protagonists embodied their characteristics wonderfully.
? Main contention ?
a new interpretation of this beloved classic might never come out at all and the now outdated premise with the damsel in distress plot could be viewed negatively in today's climate although Olive is pretty fierce on her own to be fair.

"*Toot*toot*!"

Lesson Learned:
Not every property would receive the proper silver screen treatment but one can dream, can't I?
