Trailer Review 026 King Arthur Legend of the Sword Trailer (SDCC 2016)

King Arthur Legend of the Sword

"The trailer opened with a CG overview of an English town and tracking a number of people escaping away from an opposition amidst the explosion captured by the Go-Pro cameras on them (that seemed out of place but strangely appropriate here) and ending with a classic but nonetheless dangerous high dive into the sea down below.

"With the recognizable editing and cutting from the director Guy Ritchie, the main character began to retrace his steps with fast cuts to his nightmare that served as an amalgamation of his prophecy and then his rather hands-on hand-to-hand fight in the streets, representing the different (and more masculine?) approach to the famed folk tale which is hinted at tongue-in-cheek by Arthur himself.

"The captor(?) revealed to him his more regal past as the scenes changed from the former king running away with his child to him finally pull out the fabled sword out of the stone, resulting in a more supernatural repercussion with the surrounding animals reacting before and after the unsheathing while he got another quick premonition of the war to come.

"Going full throttle without restraints with the fantastical setting, among the scenes was the Prophesied King was seen walking through a desolated land full with dinosaur-sized bones of animals and as the current king with hidden motives allowing the sword puller to confront him and as much as he tried to pull himself away from the inevitable war between the ruling authority and resistance force, the scene cut smartly straight to him fighting for the latter's side.

"Cue the big CGI war fest which is synonymous to the Lord of the Rings trilogy with additions of magic from the King and street-cred from the King-to-be as the huge scale and visual flourish went hand-in-hand with its status as a big blockbuster Hollywood film which is helmed by a rather capable director in the industry.

"The trailer ended with the captured Arthur being talked down by the King by jokingly mentioned him as a legend, again emphasizing the playful take on the concept itself."
