Picture Review 003 Beauty and the Beast's Behind the Scenes Peek

Beauty and the Beast (Disney)
Premiered March 17, 2017

The sneak peek comes "one year to the day after the completion of principal photography," mentioned by the co-producer, Jack Morissey.

Dan Stevens as the Prince/Beast looks like to be a really spot-on cast even in a candid moment between the shots, still up in the air whether it would be a direct adaptation of the beloved animated classic and if he's seen here before or after the darn curse being inflicted upon the character.

One of the more memorable scenes from the movie was apparently being shot here, with both characters of Gaston and his sidekick, LeFou, being played by Luke Evans and Josh Gad, were in the middle of their musical number in the pub. It would be interesting to see how the cartoonish caricatures would translate into live action with more realistic figures of the actors with the iconic musical aspects of the original still remain to be seen on the silver screen.

For the aspect of non-human characters, these designs of candelabra Lumiére (Ewan McGregor) and his pal Cogsworth (Ian McKellen) "are close but may not be final." Based on the previous teaser trailer review, everything is being brought to life sometimes faithfully and others with intent to update and give more realistic flairs to the franchise, as much as it can be tweaked without changing what is essential for the premise.

Although the basic silhouettes and types of both characters are being kept, the more muted colours and ornate designs made the characters appeared more believable to be in real world but not as 'child-friendly' as the original. It takes inspiration from the practical and stylish world of Guillermo del Toro and the 1946 adaptation of the fairy tale and by keeping in mind the designs are still being finalized, how they finally moves, interact and even sing on the silver screen is something to be looking forward the most to.
