TV Preview 006 the Defenders

 THE DEFENDERS
Netflix & Marvel
[Late 2017]

Chance of Success = above 90% success rate (waiting on Iron Fist)
-
how they would come to be together:

The Defenders will introduce the title team by seeing the individual members arriving at the offices of Midland Circle where an epic brawl breaks out before they can even properly introduce themselves.

“Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York. We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?”
- the Defender showrunner Marco Ramirez (as well as Daredevil Season 1 & 2) -
“The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower. We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, ‘I never want to see your face again.”
- Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb -
+ Positive +
An epic opening fight sequence bringing them all together fittingly started in the corridors, with probably each Defender had one to fight through until finally meeting each other in the middle,
with every vigilante following through on their own leads of small incidents that are tied together under a big umbrella, the level of threat and stake would be at the highest since the Netflix series have been dabbling in martial arts, superhuman and now supernatural aspect of the Universe,
after learning and following each Defender's backstory and journey inside and around the Hell's Kitchen, the job of setting them up has already been done and leave it for them to interact with each other for the very first time and in a team setup that's foreign to all of them and bringing up possibility of them teaming up in the future especially Iron Fist and Luke Cage duo in the comics,
with the series shortened to a short eight episodes, the overall storyline would be more compact and seamless without much fillers and make the momentum keep going until the big finale hopefully.
? Main contention ?
Since they're brought together to face a common enemy out of necessity instead of out of mutual cooperation, they would have to find time to work out their differences in their fight against the big bad to ensure they wouldn't get in each other's way and inadvertently hinder each other.
- Negative -
Their arsenal are mainly physical based although the source of their abilities differ from each other, adding to the criticism of just another punching fest and everything would be monotonous at best.
--
where the hit investigator is currently:

- Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones -
“She’s still dealing with the aftermath of Kilgrave, and now she’s dealing with ‘success’ — and not well,” Ritter explains. “People want her to work for them, she’s getting a lot of business, and she’s not ready for any of that. She hasn’t changed, but her environment has, and there’s no handbook for how to exist in a world where you are now popular.”
spending time with her childhood best friend, Patsy Walker/Hellcat(?) [Rachael Taylor]
+ Positive +
With her success in killing off a traumatic demon and it finally being brought to light, Jessica Jones' newfound 'fame' would not be handled gracefully by the antisocial reluctant hero.
? Main contention ?
Her colorful yet spiteful personality would now having to deal with other vigilantes that have been fighting crimes and dealing with their abilities in their own ways, it would be a sight to see.
- Negative -
-
being brought in for another crime perhaps or just a questioning by Misty Knight [Simone Missick]
---
where the distraught crime fighter is currently:
- Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil -
+ Positive +
The aftermath of that war with the Hand should be seen straight away as his former flame turned femme fatale was prophesied to be Black Sky and the reincarnation process seemed to be in progress,
as the only one who had an alter ego and an fully designed battle suit to boot, his established devil image would be brought up among the casually clothed Defenders (besides Iron Fist's still unknown appearance) and how they all appear in public as they are now instead of hiding behind a mask.
? Main contention ?
Having been dealt a bad hand in his fight against the Hand, he would be the main throughline of this miniseries as the criminal organization would be the main opponent if the teaser is to be understood.
- Negative -
-
Elodie Yung as the departed(?) Elektra
-----
where the framed neighborhood hero currently:
- Mike Colte as Luke Cage -
+ Positive +
Having to serve time because of the prison break, his fight to get out back legally would be led by Foggy Nelson from Daredevil and Jeri Hogarth from Jessica Jones and it should end early in the season since they would meet each other to in the trademark hallway,
with the past being firmly left behind, his need to right the wrong would be at the highest since he's shaken off the wrongful framing and embraced fully the superhero burden put upon him.
? Main contention ?
Already having a past failed relationship with Jessica Jones, how both of them would handle it in the group with the rest of the Defenders factor into it especially with an impending threat coming.
- Negative -
-
------
where the superpowered billionaire would be:
- Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist -
+ Positive +
Tapping into the more supernatural part of the MCU especially with the 'chi' aspect of his power, how his journey in his own show would determine how far his abilities would go.
? Main contention ?
Iron Fist is the only Defender other than Daredevil to potentially have a costume to pay homage to his signature look in the comic although the Asian stereotype might need to be toned down ...
judging by the picture below, his quest to get back his family's company seemed to be successful as he's seen with Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) on top of his building on the helicopter pad while the other picture seen him apprehending a goon with a gas mask, possibly teasing the storyline of the villain spreading poisonous gas all around the Hell's Kitchen,
aside from possible team up of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, another duo from the comic that could materialize is between Colleen Wing and Misty Knight with their paths crossed with each other.
- Negative -
The original storyline of a Caucasian warrior learning the way of the West has been brought up again in the wake of his upcoming debut and unfortunately whitewashing again being brought up although his background story is much more richer than that that premise.
------
a case for the villain:
- Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra -
“She's an utter badass who brings an intellectual sophistication on par with Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk. Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous. We knew it would take something massive to pull these four characters from their individual worlds to work together, but also small enough that it felt like it existed in our world.”
- the Defender showrunner Marco Ramirez -

+ Positive +
Not resorting to a typical big bad with superior strength ability that could've turn the show into just another generic superhero staple but instead would be more intellectual and menacing with a hint of impending doom just lying underneath the surface,
the amount of gravitas given to the series with the attachment of such a talent in the Alien alumnus while providing a massive counterbalance for the four newcomers to bounce off with.
? Main contention ?
With the Defenders as a force to be reckoned with as a team, how big of a threat could she and the organization she is leading could present to the powered individuals?
- Negative -
