Movie Preview 032 Han Solo a Star Wars Anthology

Han Solo: a Solo Movie
(working title)
Disney & Lucasfilm
[25th of May, 2018]
Chance of Success =  85% and over definitely after Rogue One success
-
a case for the spin-off:

+ Positive +
Interesting character to based a movie around and intriguing backstory to delve into.
? Main contention ?
How much would be too much when the movie would start to peel away into what makes Han Solo ... Han Solo that we would know everything about his past that nothing is secret anymore?
- Negative -
Basically, this movie doesn't need to exist to keep the universe going but essentially needed to venture into his past while his present appeared to be over ... a more sensible idea is for an Obi-Wan Kenobi film surrounding Ewan McGregor but he is rumored to play a vital part in Episode VIII although it is still remains to be seen.
--
a case for the cast:
- Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo -
+ Positive +
Standout performance in Hail Caesar! with still a young career full of potential,
already had a role playing a younger Harrison Ford in the Age of Adaline.
? Main contention ?
No high profile success as of yet.
- Negative -
The impossibly insurmountable task of having to live up to the iconic role of the space scoundrel and would be heavily compared and unfairly scrutinized with the original no matter the end result.
---
- Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian -
+ Positive +
Charismatic and funny individual in his own rights and definitely in the same veins of how Billy Dee Williams portrayed the rather regal yet reluctant friend of the infamous space pirate,
full of talents in a number of fields with successful career in the music industry (as Childish Gambino) and spearheading his own show (in Atlanta), he would for sure gives his all for a beloved character from his childhood.
? Main contention ?
Having to portray a supporting role as iconic as Han Solo, would he run into the same conundrum of how to play the younger version of the character: having it being a straight impersonation of the character and the actor behind it or would it be a faithful representation in a similar vein but with the young actor's essence embedded into it?
- Negative -
Although not as iconic as Han Solo, some wouldn't be able to differentiate the original actor with the character hence the negative reception of somebody new coming to play the role again,
his physical outlook arguably appeared to look younger and youthful than Williams although he is basically playing the younger version of him.
----
a case for the cast:
- Emilia Clarke -
+ Positive +
A household name because of her outstanding works in the hit HBO show Game of Thrones.
? Main contention ?
Have big budget experience in the science fiction genre with Terminator Genysis but not yet in fantasy sci-fi in the shape of Star Wars although her already proven talents should be enough.
- Negative -
Led a couple of motion pictures as the main protagonist that didn't really achieve box office and critical success especially the one mentioned above although her solid performances didn't factor into the negative feedbacks.
-----
a case for the mentor:
- Woody Harrelson -
- possible character: Garris Shrike -
+ Positive +
A capable seasoned veteran of the field with his now trademark personalities come through every performance he was in with his characteristics synonymous with how Han Solo is portrayed, giving more believability on him being the mentor of the eventual Jedi's friend.
? Main contention ?
Having been thoroughly delved into in the Expanded Universe and now the current comic book run, the life action background story of him would be inevitably created from scratch or maybe even based on previously written storylines but would it be beneficial or detriment to know and see that he possibly got all of that from another mentor?
- Negative -
Being the main alpha male in the original trilogies, how much would that be affected seeing on the screen always possibly being the second fiddle?
------
a case for the director duo:
+ Positive +
Had a tremendous success in a variety of genres (action comedy and kid's adventure) and mediums (animation and life action) with a proven track record centered around their particular brand of humor that really hit big with the audiences,
have successful experience working under big studios for high budgeted projects and making the best out of impossibly unworkable concepts such as toy as a movie and a movie reboot of a classic show.
? Main contention ?
First time delving into a new genre of space opera as well as the ever beloved Star Wars universe but their known ability to make sense of an unneeded yet intriguing premise now of a young Han Solo movie give him that much more credence,
having to create from scratch the whole narrative around LEGO and a cohesive movie of 21 Jump Street, how much freedom would they be given now they already have established characters and universe to based the movie on?
- Negative -

[!Possible Plot Alert!]
"This movie takes place roughly ten years before Han Solo met Ben Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, which led to him joining the rebellion. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit claims to know the story, that the main gist of the movie will revolve around how Lando Calrissian lost his ship to Han and Chewbacca. It was in The Empire Strikes Back that this piece of Star Wars canon was first revealed.

In that second movie, Lando asks Han what happened to 'his ship', which leads Solo to declare that he won it 'fair and square'. Since that time, it has only been hinted that Lando lost the ship during a game of Sabacc, which is a popular card game used for gambling throughout the galaxy.
It is also being speculated that the Han Solo movie could feature the iconic Kessel Run that has so often been heard about over the years, and in several of the movies. That isn't mentioned in this latest report, and it's possible that race is being saved for the sequel, or even the trilogy ending climax, as Disney and LucasFilm have hinted that this will be its own franchise, with Alden Ehrenreich signed on for three movies.

While the Millennium Falcon was first introduced in 1977's A New Hope, that's not the earliest it's been seen in the Star Wars timeline. If you look close enough, you'll see the smuggling ship in Revenge of the Sith, before it was owned by Han Solo and Lando. It was confirmed that this is in fact Han's ship and not another that looks just like it. So the Falcon must have its own unique backstory that will likely get explored in the years to come."
