News 001 Captain Marvel's Lead and Director Frontrunner

Captain Marvel [030819] Chance of Success =  75%

Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, is a U.S. Air Force pilot who gains superhuman abilities when she is caught in the explosion of a device from the alien Kree race... (original comic origin)

(Writer Nicole Perlman [Guardians of the Galaxy] & Meg LeFauve [Inside Out], Genre Action Adventure, Drama, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sci-Fi, Space, Superhero)

~ Recent progress on the first female-led Marvel film (aside from the recently scheduled Ant-Man and the Wasp) with a couple of reported potential contenders of Jennifer Kent [the Babadook] and Niki Caro [Whale Rider, McFarland USA], the former's directorial debut success was a good indication of the actress-turned-director's potential while the latter's solid track record and previous collaboration with Disney present interesting and contrasting choices although this recent 'trend' of casting could be viewed as pandering instead of providing more opportunities to minorities (i.e. Black Panther's director casting)

~ The more vital choice on the lead of the movie with a reported early talks with Brie Larson, a rising star in the industry with a diverse acting track ranging from comical [Scott Pilgrims vs the World] to dramatic [Short Term 12] to an Oscar-winning performance [Room], and now currently co-leading a major studio's film [Kong - Skull Island] and although the mainstream audiences could prefer more renowned action starlet, her recent achievement would add more credence and prestige to the project

~ Brie Larson as a frontrunner is an unexpected news because of her lack of action-oriented roles if compared against other more notable action stars (i.e. Emily Blunt [Edge of Tomorrow], Katee Sachoff [Riddick] & Yvonne Strahovski [Chuck]) and the newcomers (i.e. Katherine Winnick [Vikings], Natalie Dormer [the Hunger Games] & Rebecca Ferguson [Mission Impossible Rogue Nation])

~ The original comic character is drawn rather muscular and quite sexualised which mirrored in the fan-favourite casting for the role (i.e. Ronda Rousey and Alexandra Daddario) instead of choosing the actresses that fit the role the most (Emily Blunt or Rebecca Ferguson) or the one that has the potential for it (Brie Larson)
, with the possibility of Marvel casting a less publicized actress to ensure full relatability to the character without any prior connection to other franchise
