Movie Review 032 Captain America Civil War [May 06 2016]

Captain America Civil War [050616] 4.5/5

Steve Rogers is leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps: one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

(Director Anthony & Joe Russo [Captain America Civil War, the LEGO Movie], Writer Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely [Captain America the Winter Soldier], Budget $250 Millions -> Box Office $179> Millions, Duration 2hrs 21mns, Rating PG-13, Genre - Action Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Science Fiction)

"A new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this perfect start to Phase Three that is an action-packed superhero blockbuster as well as the most mature storyline yet that highlights the different ideologies of both titular characters and how far they have come."

+/- The most mature yet intimate storyline yet between the main characters with the stakes at the most personal level for them with unintentional physical and emotional consequences of the collateral damage from their vigilante ways catching up to them, culminating from the first time they become the Avengers and their individual reactions to it, reflected in the overall bleak and dreary tone that was brighten up by the occasional light moments but it could be too heavy for some
+ Masterful balance by the deft hands of the Russos of the enormous cast of Marvel's superheroes with different traits and characteristics as their clashing ideologies served as the main through line of the movie with each of them have their own adequate and deserved time in the spotlight while Captain America is still the main focus of the storyline, balancing two converging storylines from the two different movies perfectly
+ Clear and tactile action sequences brought to life by the fight choreographers of John Wick's fame as this anticipated clash of superheroes certainly didn't disappoint, living up to its potential and then some, with encounters between the different superheroes being sprinkled throughout the movie and the cherry on top is the 17 minutes airport action sequences that is certainly the best to date
+/- Almost all of the main roster have personal stakes and stance in the ultimate fight for and against the registration under the Sokovia Accords with Tony Stark wanted their actions to be regulated while Steve Rogers doesn't want to be controlled with people with agendas, both have appealing arguments to defend their stances while the others who have a hand in the preceding incidents have valid reasons to stand by each of them but a few could have been better
+/- The main antagonist who was pulling the string from the shadows to instigate this civil war further is the embodiment of the collateral damage of the Avenger's action and although he ultimately won in the end, he was secondary throughout the movie but served his function well, how minute it might be compared to the other movies' villains
+ Smart decision to parallel the situation of  the Winter Soldier who is under the mind control of Hydra with the Avengers trying to tie themselves down under the control of the world governments, both with their own changing wills and agenda to exercise with
+ Perfect introduction of the newest characters in the Cinematic Universe of royalty personified, Black Panther, who is both regal and full of discipline and Spider-Man, the new kid on the block who is a newbie in the superhero world but full of potential, showcasing the vast difference in tone and characteristics of the Marvel's colourful cast and highlighting just how perfect the adaptation of these tricky characters are
