"I hope they kill him, I really do." "Welcome to a new world of gods and monster." "How does this ends, man?"
Trailer Review 048 Movies: the Hitman's Bodyguard | the Mummy | the Wall
the Hitman's Bodyguard
[18th of August, 2017]
Trailer Effectiveness =
100% with effective establishment of the premise and the conflict between them
Chance of Success =
definitely over 80% with their onscreen chemistry yet fear of overdoing it is there
the laugh-a-second marathon resulted in the dirty yet entertaining interaction between the supposed subject of protection and the one tasked to protect it as the two have a great chemistry and bounce off of each other that still would not deter them from doing their job of killing people throughout the city,
~
the movie would depend on the director finding the right balance between showcasing their capable comedy abilities and their leading action star prowess which could be seen clearly in the first trailer.
? Main contention ?
the little twist on the familiar concept is intriguing on face value but how far could they stretch it before it snaps out of lack of meaty storyline and coherent relationship between the two protagonist?
~
with their tangential ties in the Marvel Movie Universe albeit separated between MCU and Fox's X-Men Universe, it would be remissed if they didn't at least touch on the subject or giving a knowing nod to it and judging by the parody poster below (off the Bodyguard), it's not more than likely now.
- Negative -
having the movie being rated R for the sake of it by not having any clever use of it and constant foul language without any substance (just like in Deadpool being pushed by his personality and journey while in Logan being pushed by a tired tortured soul lashing out against his own mortality.

the Mummy
[Ninth of June, 2017]
Chance of Success = over 90% with studio's full backing of this modern resurgence
-
a case for this more action oriented take on a well-trodden premise with a twist:

a case for this more action oriented take on a well-trodden premise with a twist:
using a female antagonist in the role of the mummy would present a new perspective and fresh storyline instead of going down the same road again and having a capable actress in the role would give it more dimension other than just a pretty face as she's known for her flexibility and physicality,
~
the huge responsibility of possibly kickstarting the Universal Monsters Universe is given to one of the most capable and charismatic action star in Tom Cruise and giving it the best step forward possible besides giving the project the most credibility in the eyes of the industry,
~
appeared to be using the modern action movie template effectively with the usual military genre against the mystical threat of the Mummy while having foreshadowing of what's to come.
? Main contention ?
{SPOILER ALERT! the possible resurrection(?) of the main protagonist could be caused by the Mummy herself (there was a TV spot of his own pupils splitting into two just like hers) or maybe there's even a possibility of him having more pivotal role in the narrative i.e. a descendant of another character (Van Helsing?)},
- Negative -
quite a departure from the more horror thriller-oriented original but surprisingly in line with the more well-known Brendan Fraser-led most recent reinterpretation -

having the most talented and established actors and writers to contribute and take part in every facet of this ambitious attempt makes it that much more possible i.e. Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp (Invisible Man), Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem (Frankenstein's monster), Angelina Jolie (Frankenstein's bride),
? Main contention ?
Russel Crowe as Dr. Jekyll would basically act as this Universe's Nick Fury but it's still unknown how big of a role he would play in this movie and the following movies in the series and would all of these iconic monsters faces each other!
- Negative -
trying to retroactively start it with Dracula Untold which proven to be unsuccessful and a detriment to the movie in the end as Luke Evans missed the opportunity to be included in a lucrative Universe,
~
putting all of these pressure on this first movie to give the studio a positive head start could do more harm than good although it's looking mighty solid so far.

the Wall
[12th of May, 2017]
Chance of Success = over 90% with the director's proven ability & interesting premise
a capable director mostly portraying effective action films in variety of sub-genres,
~
the two leads' increasing stocks in the market with Aaron's brilliant turn in Nocturnal Animals and John Cena's hilarious role in Trainwreck shows their range and pairing them twould only do good.
? Main contention ?
~

as long as war is in the conscience of the mass media, it would always be a popular subject to go with and always be portrayed in a more positive light that it actually is.
