for the future of the Dark Knight, winging it would be be just ... bad, girl!

DCEU News:
Matt Reeves' the BatmanNightwing by Chris McKay

the Batman
by Dawn of (& War for) the Planet of the Apes' director
Matt Reeves
[pushed back to indefinite future]
Chance of Success =
hm ... 75% after Ben's departure but slowly increasing after Matt's appointment
-
a case for the behind the scene controversy:

+ Positive +
we would never see a Ben Affleck's directed solo Batman film anytime soon ... but at the least we would see a fresh new take on the iconic vigilante in the established universe, if the studio permits it.
? Main contention ?
whether or not the poorly received villains ensemble and Ben's credential as a director taking a dent virtually for the first time in his short but sweet career play a part in the studio's increasingly reactionary decisions, the lack of a central figure a la MCU's Kevin Feige to lead their movie ventures would affect their trajectory for years to come.
- Negative -
the globally mixed reception of Suicide Squad as the most recent DCEU movie and added with Ben Affleck's own universally panned Live by Night could (or maybe did ... we'll never know) play into the decision for him as a director to drop down to 'focus' on being the Dark Knight.
--
a case for the capable replacement:
+ Positive +
having been involved with a successful new take of an established franchise with a more emotional stake and grounded outlook of the original premise, he's the perfect replacement in this situation.
? Main contention ?
with an already established world and current timeline Batman is in, at what state the vigilante would be in and whom would he faced in his first solo movie in this new shared universe? with Ben Affleck as the lead and Joe Manganiello still attached to be Deathstroke, the possibility of them continuing on with the existing script is still there although their tendency to change it up would put everything on notice.
~
arguably moving down with a less prominent director, would Matt Reeves be able to put his own stamp on the motion picture or would he be a under WB's thumbs all the way?
~
would the actor-turned director as well-turned actor only play well under someone that's in his previous spot?
~
with the scheduled production being pushed back, how streamlined would the project be after this recent shakeup?
- Negative -
the inevitability of the blame falls on Matt if it's ended up being a negatively received end product.

Nightwing Movie
 by the LEGO Batman Movie's
 Chris McKay
[?]
Chance of Success =
well over 80% for his surprise hit but apprehensive because of his inexperience
-
a case for the melee specialist:

+ Positive +
almost at the same level of vigilantism with the Batman although with a rebellious streak especially against his mentor and would always love to do things his way ...
? Main contention ?
in the current DCEU, the fate of the first mentee in Jason Todd appeared to be morbid at best (according to his vandalized suit by Joker in BvS) which would definitely affect how they approach his predecessor in his own solo film and what tone would they take to tell his own story.

--
a case for the surprising but fitting helmer:
+ Positive +
Chris McKay had the best grasp of the millionaire-turned-crime fighter concept and his own particularly unique universe that's apparent in the LEGO Batman Movie, leaving this particular project in the most capable hands,
? Main contention ?
as much as it was the perfect parody of the franchise and commentating on its premise and the superhero genre in general, would he be able to change up his pace and go to the opposite end of the spectrum to better fit the established universe?
~
as per tradition apparently, where would the titular character fit in the current universe under the guidance of the veteran vigilante? he arguably would be more fitting here than the other mentee in question below ..,
- Negative -
his inexperience in directing live action movies would leave some detractors feeling skeptical but in the same veins of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, there's always a chance of him succeeding well beyond expectation.

Joss Whedon's Batgirl

[?]
Chance of Success =
well above 90% with his previous success and passion for strong female leads
-
a case for the geek culture icon and (possibly) his current muse:
+ Positive +
successfully kickstarting the Marvel Cinematic Universe by assembling the diverse superheroes in a grand ensemble twice in the Avengers and Age of Ultron (under the guidance of Kevin Feige of course), he would be the prime suspect to do the same for DCEU,
~
he understandably dropped down after unfortunately burning out in the latter project and a 'small' (compared to his aforementioned works) solo film starring a certain female vigilante would be a perfect project for him to bounce back into this genre that propelled him into stardom,
~
not being able to make his own Black Widow movie (that he reportedly wanted to do) because it couldn't fit into the scheduled phases, his continued passion to push strong female protagonists as evident in his signature television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be the perfect mindset in adapting Batgirl into live action,
? Main contention ?
with the new 52 timeline reportedly to be the main inspiration for the adaptation, how well would she fit in the 'gritty' and serious franchise? wouldn't her more cheery disposition and positive outlook clashes with the other characters?
~
the most important thing is how much would the studio take part in the process? would the Age of Ultron incident repeat again or would he be given a free reign to sculpt the perfect Batgirl flick?
