Trailer Review 030 Moana Official Trailer [Disney]

Moana
[112316] Chance of Success =  95%

[00.00]
Opening with an introductory look of the island with the happy inhabitants that represents wonderfully the way of life of Samoan before, with the happy community contrasting with the impending danger looming beyond the reef that brought to life the reality and the mythology together.

[00.12]
The old lady continued to tell of a legend of "a hero who would journey to find the demigod, Maui" as the main protagonist, Moana, stumbled upon a fleet of ships in a cave behind a waterfall that in the next scene appeared to be used by a number of male Samoans going through the waves with the image of the demigod as the presumed target. Showed then to be shapeshifting from a giant eagle into his human form, the demigod resembled a big Polynesian man fitting his stature with a giant hook in his right hand and the unmistakable nod to the character's voice over actor, Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson. "And together, they would save us all," she concluded as Moana fearlessly took one of the raft and went off into the sea herself by following the blue glow under the water, that was until a giant came crushing down on her.

Hearing for the first time of the beautiful soundtrack made by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the following scene was right after that crash with her boat crashed and stranded on the beach, she noticed the shadow of the sought after demigod and tried to hide behind it, which was lifted effortlessly by him to his delight and to his surprise seeing another human on the presumed deserted island. Trying to state the cause of her journey, the rather arrogant Maui tried to add to her introduction of him, showcasing his particular personality that mirrored perfectly his real life counterpart and also the start of an entertaining dynamic between these two characters.

[01.03]
His objection of going on a mission with her could be because of the danger it posed or maybe just his disdain of her, but when Moana was thrown right back onto the boat after a forceful disembark, even he was surprised of the reveal of her friend, 'the ocean.' .

[01.07]
"First, we got to go through a whole ocean of bad," Maui introducing the first obstacle in their journey, the Kakamora with the level of cuteness to be envied of and lethality to be afraid of. Appeared to be in line of fire of a fireball, she gripped the rope more tightly and went straight ahead as her tied up hair be a physical manifestation of her determination in the face of peril while the demigod's genuine concern of her well-being seemed to push himself to finally unleashing his power against the giant monstrosity made out of lava, rising from the thick layer of dark clouds.
(His shapeshifting power wasn't used to traverse the sea or in any of the fights so far ... the length of time could be it.)

[01.45]
The only quick cuts of the trailer showed a happier Samoan community sailing through the ocean together despite their sexes, Maui shapeshifting himself out of the reach of the monster, the looking back of the island as well as the mother figure she's fighting for and punctuated with a scene of the demigod getting a blow dart on his butt cheek, adding a much-needed levity to this dangerous tale.

[02.05]
Dropping in into the Realm of Monsters, he tried to make the terrifying decision to jump into it at least a more light-hearted activity, with the consequences of his actions still up in the air.

"I interrupted. From the top. Hero of men. Go."

+ Highlights: beautiful flora and fauna with gorgeous island and vast ocean, wonderfully animated cartoonic characters contrasting the almost photo-realistic sceneries, the gorgeous water animation, the authentic feel of the soundtrack,
- Lowlights: the trend of Disney movies of a token cute sidekick, the usual physical gag, the inherent stupidity of some of the side characters (the chicken compared to the piglet),
