Slow or Fast?

While that regal-looking palace would be their dream destination at the end of his journey through this massive land, they know it's still a far-fetched idea to come through for them, a lowly peasant without any value to be of service to the kingdom. The narrator does not appreciate them looking down on themselves like that, but he understand it is their own particular method of motivation, seeing through other people's point of view first before being judged by them. Maybe that's why they are so eager to get up this mountain without any actual purpose or goal, just an arbitrary personal challenge to get over for the day. After a few moments of calm and rejuvenation, they turn their back to the castle and never look back. The steep incline is never a problem anymore despite the strain on the muscles and the depleting level of energy overall. They just clear up their mind of unnecessary thoughts to focus on taking one step up at a time, calmly reminding themselves that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. One step after another, slowly but surely they are going up by the face of the mountain. When they actually reach the top, they could find... nothing. The nature is breathtaking of course especially all the way up here but there is nothing else to be done here, except just to take deep breaths and wonder at the natural splendour before them. On the left side, they could see a smooth vast green field going down with a slight decline. Somewhere, somehow, there is a raw emotion bubbling up from inside that urges them to... ride down the slope on the shield, man! Well, there's nowhere else but down after all. Why not?

The only question here is... should they be careful going down or just go down without any inhibition at all? Strapping it off from the body and gently laying down the shield on the grass, they step right on top of it and...?
